WHAT SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS SHOULD I USE?

  • Adobe Illustrator®
  • Adobe Indesign®
  • Adobe Photoshop®
  • QuarkXPress®

We use the most recent versions of the software listed.

HOW DO I DETERMINE THE CORRECT LAYOUT FOR A PRODUCT?

Request a cutting die template from you customer service representative. These can be e-mailed to you as an EPS or PDF file or you can choose one from our online library. Place the template on a separate layer. The template is set to overprint and will not print on your job. The diecutting marks will print outside the print area. (Import the eps template into a picture box in QuarkXPress®). All bleeds should extend 1/8″. Precision will provide all traps to your file.

WHAT IS A PRINT-READY FILE?

A Print-Ready file includes final pages prepared in our supported software applications with 1/8″ bleeds to fit our furnished design templates. Art and imported files or scans that link to the document, as well as all fonts used are necessary. If there are areas to be embossed, spot coated, or foil stamped, make sure these areas are marked clearly and placed on separate layers in your digital file.

Prepress:

  • Spot colors should be specified by Pantone® numbers.
  • 300 dpi is standard image resolution. Place images at 100 percent.
  • Request and use our templates. DO NOT CHANGE any of the properties on the templates we provide.
  • Send your artwork in either the native format, including all links and fonts, or as a Print-Ready PDF.

Outline fonts when sending a Print-Ready PDF.

  • Simplify file names.
  • Stuff or Zip your files to avoid corruption during transfer.

WHAT KIND OF PROOF CAN I EXPECT TO SEE?

PDF Online Proofs are submitted for commercial grade or digital print jobs. PDF proofs are fast and allow you to see color breaks, check for content accuracy and image position. Because of the differences in monitor calibration we will produce your 4 color process elements to a “pleasing color” standard using standard density readings at press.

Premium Quality jobs will receive a hard copy proof produced by our Epson printers. These proofs more accurately predict printing characteristics. If your job is extremely color critical we may recommend a Fuji FinalProof. This proof is the closest match to offset printing that we can provide (additional charges will apply).

Content Proofs are submitted to verify construction features, copy placement, and two-sided print imposition. These low resolution paper proofs are not indicative of the color that will be produced on press.
